Secretary of State visits shiree
Andrew Mitchell MP, the UK’s Secretary of State for International Development, recently visited Bangladesh. Mr Mitchell wanted to see for himself how UK aid is helping the extremely poor people of the country. His itinerary included a visit to Bainpara where he interacted with shiree beneficiaries of the Save the Children-Prodipan programme.
The Secretary of State was accompanied by the Head of DFID Bangladesh, the British High Commissioner and Colin Risner, CEO of shiree. Mr Mitchell was very complimentary of the NGO programme saying he had seen that beneficiaries of the shiree project have managed to lift themselves off the bottom, and now have a chance of a better life. He added "It's wonderful that British aid is lifting the poorest of the poor on to the ladder of economic opportunity”
